Any master’s student or PhD candidate enrolled in a recognized graduate program.

Is there any age limit for the student to apply?

Students must be 35 or younger at application deadline.

Are students of any nationality eligible to apply?

    Yes, they are.

Is there any restriction about the topic of my research?

Yes, there is: the topic of your research must be related to Rome or the Roman culture, from the Pre-Roman period to the present day time. Topics that are not related to Rome are not eligible

Am I required to stay in Rome during my research?

Yes, you are. In your proposal you must provide evidence for your need to study and carry out your research in Rome.

I already live in Rome: may I apply for a scholarship?

Applicants who are resident in Lazio are excluded from the award; however, students from Lazio with outstanding proposals can be awarded with a una-tantum grant of research of 500 euro.

In what language should my application be written in?

Applications may be sent in Italian or in English. If the application is sent in English, then a short bilingual abstract in both English and Italian should be also included.

    • procedures and activities: your action plan while in Rome.

Is any letter of reference required?

Yes, two letters of reference are required, containing a brief description of the student and his/her course: one from the student’s tutor/professor and one from the head of studies/faculty or a leading expert in the field, who is informed about the student’s research.

Should I upload or email the letters of reference?

No, you only have to give the referring professors’ information. Your professors are required to email their letters directly to info@lemmermann-foundation.org.

I did not receive a fellowship this year. May I apply again next year?

Of course! We encourage applicants to reapply, after updating the research.
